Tannersville is a community of colorful, creative people (Main Street at twilight).
Since America’s early days, the Catskill Mountains have been a destination for travelers who wanted to see the wilderness and get away from city life. The tradition that started with the building of the famous Catskill Mountain House resort in 1824 continues today with visitors to the Tannersville and Hunter area. The Mountain Top, as some call the area, is many things – art community, recreation area with great skiing and hiking, land of second homes, nature preserve.
The Astor House is a project of the Hunter Foundation, which encourages local enterprise. Other projects include the Hotel Mountain Brook (a beautiful inn located just two blocks from the Astor House), and many others either completed or in development.
